The Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) has resumed monthly visits to boarding schools in Rwanda as the Marburg virus disease continues to slow down significantly.
MINEDUC also resumed interschool games and other school activities that were suspended as a precautionary measure in response to the Marburg epidemic.
The Ministry of Education highlighted that no school is allowed to require students to undergo medical exams unless it is requested by the Ministry of Health.
Heads of schools, staff and students have been urged by MINEDUC to continue adhering to a set of guidelines issued by health authorities to prevent the outbreak, particularly "encouraging personal hygiene practice of frequent and thorough hand washing."
MINEDUC also reminded school administrators to keep monitoring students and help them if they report any of Marburg's symptoms and instantly contact Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) through their toll-free number, 114, to receive appropriate aid.
Rwanda affirmed its first-ever Marburg epidemic late in September. Out of 1410 tests conducted so far by the Ministry of Health, 64 people have been infected, 47 have recovered, two are receiving treatment, and 15 have lost their lives as a result of this outbreak.
