APR Basketball Club have won the first-ever Rwanda Super Cup, following their convincing 73-53 victory over REG on Friday night, 17 January, at BK Arena.
Both sides went toe-to-toe in the first quarter, but REG were a better team and clinched it with a 19-18 win. However, APR rallied in the second quarter and edged REG 15-11 to take a 33-30 lead at the half-time break.
Jame Maye Jr's men extended their advantage to 11 points at the end of the third quarter, before things got worse for the Rwanda Energy Group-owned team in the final quarter as they trailed 20-11. The league holder secured a win with a 20-point margin.
Aliou Diarra showed the way for APR, grabbing a double-double with a game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Thomas Cleveland was REG's leading scorer as the American shooting guard contributed 18 points.
The Rwanda Basketball League 2024-25 campaign will start on Friday, 24 January.
