REG women’s basketball club took a 3-0 advantage, following their emphatic 82-66 win over APR women in Game 3 of the best-of-seven finals on Wednesday evening at Petit Stade.

Kristina King Morgan was at the centre of attention yet again as the American power forward had a double-double, with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Destiney Philoxy Promise added 19 points and a game-best 11 assists.

Julian Martinez’s women were brilliant from the start, winning 24-13 in the first quarter, but they were outmanoeuvred by the league holder in the second quarter, trailing 24-17. Still, they took a four-point lead at the halftime break, and Philoxy had 15 points then.

The dogged REG team showed no sign of giving up in the third quarter as they extended their lead to 10 points at the end of it.

APR seemed to have rekindled in the final quarter, however, Rosine Micomyiza's back-to-back threes made things worse for Charles Mushumba’s side in the last four minutes. REG went on to round off the contest with a 16-point lead and get closer to winning the league championship.

Assouma Uwizeye was APR’s leading scorer with 13 points, while Kamba Diakite had 12 points. Charlotte Umugwaneza and Sifa Ineza contributed 11 points apiece.

Game 4 is set for Friday, 11 October. REG will be the champions should they prevail in Game 4, whilst APR must win it to force Game 5.
