Rwanda's men's basketball team have snatched their first victory in the 2025 AfroBasket Qualifiers after trouncing Gabon 90-63 on Sunday night in Dakar, Senegal.
Cheikh Sarr's men capped off their first round of qualifiers in the third spot, winning one of their three games in Group C. Having fallen short in their first two games, they were defeated by Senegal 81-58 on Friday and Cameroon 70-59 on Saturday.
Rwanda got off to an impressive start, prevailing in the first two quarters 28-21 and 22-13 to take a 16-point lead at the halftime break.
The two sides went toe-to-toe in the third quarter as they tied 15-15 at the end of it. However, Rwanda had the upper hand in the final quarter, outscoring Gabon 25-14.
Osborn Shema of Rwanda registered a game-high 20 points, and he grabbed five rebounds.
Rwanda's skipper Dieudonne Ndizeye and Cadeau de Dieu Furaha had 14 points apiece, and the latter chipped in a game-best 11 rebounds, while Antino Jackson added 13 points and a game-high 11 assists.

The final window of the qualifiers will take place in February 2025. Three top teams from each of the five groups will qualify for the competition, slated for August 2025 in Angola.
