Germany’s Daniel Gathof and the Netherlands’ Bart Classens, riding for Team Surf Pro, claimed stage two of the ongoing Rwandan Epic 2025 in the Duo Men category on Tuesday, December 2.

The defending champions from 2023, who had finished second in the opening stage, completed the 76.1km course, which started in Nyirangarama and ended at the Africa Rising Cycling Centre (ARCC) in Musanze District, in three hours, 13 minutes, and 56 seconds.

The German-Kenyan duo of Lukas Baum, a Cape Epic champion, and Daniel Kiptala, one of Kenya’s top mountain bike riders, took second place, finishing 13 minutes and 40 seconds behind the stage winners.

Stage one winners, Rwanda’s Burkari Banzi and the Netherlands’ Louis van Zeeland, took third place with a time of three hours, 34 minutes, and 53 seconds.

In the Duo Mixed category, South Africans Bianca Haw and Wade Young maintained their winning streak, taking stage two after also winning the first stage.

Racing continues on Wednesday with stage three, a 52.9km circuit through Musanze District know as the Twin Lakes stage, starting at ARCC and ending in Musanze town. This stage features an elevation gain of 883 meters.

The Rwandan Epic, which is happening for the fifth time, is a multi-stage mountain biking race that attracts elite riders from Rwanda and around the world.

The race also supports Rwanda’s long-term goals in cycling development, infrastructure growth, and enhancing the economy through sports.
