Pierre de Froidmont and Axel Baumans starred in the underway Rwandan Epic 2024 yet again as the Belgian duo sealed the stage-two victory in the Duo Men category on Tuesday.

Having claimed the prologue stage, which took place around Fazenda Sengha in Kigali, the Orbea riders were again at the centre of attention in the fourth edition's longest race.

They raced the 95-km circuit, which began in Nyirangarama and finished at the Africa Rising Cycling Center (ARCC) in Musanze District, in four hours, 34 minutes and 6 seconds.

German duo Daniel Gathof and Peter Schermann emerged second, 11 minutes behind, while Banzi Bukhari and Didier Munyaneza came in third place, 16 minutes and 49 seconds off Team Orbea.

In the Solo Men category, German biker Hannes Ebersbächer triumphed in stage two, clocking five hours, 53 minutes and 28 seconds. Rwandan Jean Felix Irimaso came second, 5 minutes and 20 seconds behind.

Belgian Siska Marrécau and Rwandan Martha Ntakirutimana clinched the win in the Duo Women category, using six hours, 30 minutes and four seconds.

The race continues on Wednesday in a 54.9-km route that will cross Musanze District and finish at Ubworoherane Stadium. This stage will also have the Abanyonzi Race.

The Rwanda Epic, which is happening for the fourth time, is a multi-stage cycling event that draws top international and local riders in mountain biking races.
