Duarte Marivoet, riding for UAE Team Emirates Gen-Z, secured stage five of Tour du Rwanda 2025 on Friday, 28 February, as Joris Delbove kept the yellow Jersey.
The 20-year-old Belgian cyclist broke away in the final kilometer and stayed in the lead until the finish line. He raced 144 kilometres, the second-longest route of the 17th edition, from Rusizi to Huye in four hours, five minutes, and a second.
Awet Aman of Centre Mondial du Cyclisme finished second, 25 seconds behind Marivoet, using the same time as the other 12 riders who followed him.
Vainqueur Masengesho scooped the Best Rwandan award of the stage as the Team Rwanda rider finished ninth.
Eritrea's Henok Mulubrhan was awarded the Best African of the stage yet again, thanks to his fifth finish in Huye.
Joris Delbove held the overall lead after emerging 11th in stage five. The French biker has clocked 16 hours, 25 minutes, and 33 seconds after 634.4 kilometres of five stages and a prologue, two seconds ahead of his teammate Fabien Doubey, who is second in the general classification.
With his stage triumph today, Marivoet took 16th spot in the general classification, three minutes and 10 seconds behind Delbove.
Masengesho climbed one spot to sit in eighth place in the general classification, 29 seconds adrift of the leader.
The race resumes in stage six, which will cover 131.5 km from Nyanza to Kigali's Canal Olympia, on Saturday, 1 March.
