It was a horrific afternoon for Rayon Sports in front of a half-full crowd at Amahoro Stadium as they suffered a thrashing 3-0 defeat to APR on Saturday in a matchweek-seven league match.
Ronald Ssekiganda and William Togui shone by both scoring in their first Rwanda's Clasico appearance, whilst Mamadou Sy comfortably put the game to bed after coming off the bench.
APR looked determined throughout the game after dropping points in their last two league matches. On the other hand, it was also a lacklustre performance from Rayon Sports.
Haruna Ferouz's side were outplayed in the midfield, with APR's Ssekiganda and Dauda Yussif bossing it.
Ssekiganda put the league title holder ahead in the 26th minute, heading home after a corner kick taken by Bosco Ruboneka.
With their utter dominance, Abderrahim Talib's men were quick to double their advantage just 10 minutes later, with Togui netting from close range after Hakim Kiwanuka's effort was kept out by goalkeeper Pavelh Ndzila.
Mamadou Sy wrapped up APR's victory in the stoppage time with a comfortable finish, capitalising on Chris Rushema's howler when his back pass fell short to reach goalkeeper Ndzila, as the Mauritian striker scored without challenge.
"They told us if we win the midfield, we win the game," Ssekiganda told B&B Kigali after the game.
He added: "It was the plan to dominate the game because we prepared so well, and what the coach told us, we implemented it on the field."
"APR showed more determination than we did. That was the difference," said Rayon Sports interim coach Haruna Ferouz in the post-match press conference.
Rayon Sports stayed in the second place in the table despite the loss, sitting on 13 points after seven games – four points behind Police.
Meanwhile, APR moved into fifth position in the league standings with 11 points after five games, with two games in hand.
