APR have slipped one point behind Rwanda Premier League leaders Rayon Sports, following their 2-1 huge victory over struggling Vision on Sunday night at Kigali Pele Stadium.
It was Mamadou Sy who sealed a much-needed triumph for Darko Novic's outfit after Djibril Ouattara's goal from the spot was cancelled by Idarusi Cyubahiro's header in the first half.
The league holder knew they had to win going into the game to cut the gap at the top of the table to one point as Rayon Sports were shocked by Mukura on Saturday.
APR had an advantage in the 19th minute when Stephen Bonney tripped Ouattara in the area, and the home team were awarded a penalty.
Ouattara put APR ahead from 12 yards as he sent James Bienvenue the wrong way to mark his third league goal of the season since he joined in January.
Idarusi Cyubahiro levelled for the visitors on the stroke of the half-time break with an excellent header.
Mamadou Sy fired Darko Novic's side into a 2-1 win from close range in the 84th minute.
"The players feel big pressure, and it's not easy to play this game, it doesn't matter who the opponent is. I know that such kinds of games will be the most difficult for us, it's much easier when you play against Rayon Sports, Police, or AS Kigali," APR head coach Darko Novic told the media.
APR are second in the standings with 45 points, a point behind Rayon Sports after 22 league matches.
The 22-time league winner, who have yet to grab the top spot this season, will return to league action on Saturday, 5 April, facing Bugesera at Bugesera Stadium.
"We will fight until the end. There are a lot of difficult matches ahead, it doesn't matter the name of the opponent," Novic on the title race against Rayon Sports.
Vision stayed at the bottom of the league table with 16 points from 22 matches and have lost 14 times this season.
