APR have advanced to the Heroes Cup final after chalking up a convincing 2-0 win over AS Kigali in the semi-finals on Tuesday, 28 January, at Kigali Pele Stadium.
Goals from debutant Denis Omedi and Ramadhan Niyibizi fired Darko Novic's side to back-to-back Heroes Cup finals.
Both sides played out a scoreless first half before APR outsmarted Shabani Mbarushimana's team in the second half.
Novic included two of his four new signings, Hakim Kiwanuka and Denis Omedi, in the starting XI, whilst Mbarushimana started Haruna Niyonzima, who recently rejoined the Kigali-based side for a third term.
APR had an upper hand in the second half, with plenty of ball possession and chances.
Omedi opened the scoring in the 57th minute from the spot after APR were awarded a controversial penalty for Jean Bosco Akayezu's handball in the box, which AS Kigali lamented about.
Substitute Niyibizi doubled the lead in the 79th minute with a sensational freekick from the outside corner of the box.
Arsene Tuyisenge could have put APR 3-0 in front when his tap-in from Olivier Dushimimana's low cross was stopped by AS Kigali goalkeeper Aime Gael Cuzuzo. Still, Darko Novic's men clinched the triumph.
APR will face the victorious side from Rayon Sports v Police semi-final clash in the final.
