Franklin Onyeabor fired AS Kigali to a nail-biting 1-0 victory over Police in a rescheduled Rwanda Premier League match held at Kigali Pele Stadium on Sunday evening.

After nine league games, AS Kigali snatched third place in the table with 17 points, a point adrift of Gorilla, following the win.

Meanwhile, Police are fourth with 15 points after nine games following their back-to-back defeat.

This match was originally scheduled for the last weekend of October but was put off to due 2024 CHAN Qualifiers.

In the 29th minute, Ani Elijah beat Marc Nkubana and hammered a powerful shot that was punched by AS Kigali goalkeeper Aime Gael Cuzuzo. Still, Simeon Iradukunda could not score in an open goal.

The two sides produced scoring chances and attempted to snap the deadlock in the first half although failed to do so as they headed at the break equalising 0-0.

Vincent Mashami's men were dominant throughout the second half but were not decisive in front of the goal.

Franklin Onyeabor put AS Kigali in the lead with a superb finish in the box after Aime Ntirushwa's chip freekick in the 65th minute.

Hussein Shabani could have doubled the advantage in the 82nd minute after Emmanuel Okwi set him up in the area but the Burundian striker was denied by Police goalkeeper Onesme Rukundo.

Shabani Mbarushimana's side managed to keep Police frontline, who created plenty of scoring chances, at bay to secure three points.
