Haruna Niyonzima has signed for AS Kigali on a short-term deal, with the veteran footballer returning to the Kigali-based side for a third stint.

"Excited to have you back where you belong," the club said on social media.

Niyonzima was a free agent since splitting up with Rayon Sports in September 2024, following just a month and a half.

The former Young Africans and Simba player spent 2019 with AS Kigali before making a stunning return to Young Africans.

However, he rejoined AS Kigali in 2021 for a one-year term, spearheading them to a Peace Cup trophy.

He, afterwards, joined Libyan outfit Al Ta'awon in 2022 and returned to Rwanda Premier League in the summer of 2024 to join Rayon Sports.

The Rwandan midfielder mutually parted company with Rayon Sports without appearing in a single league match after the Blues and Whites failed to comply with the terms of the contract.

Niyonzima, who became AS Kigali's first signing in this January transfer window, has also entered the coaching career and obtained a CAF license C in 2019.

AS Kigali finished the league's first phase in third spot with 26 points, 10 points off the league leader Rayon Sports, from 15 games

They will return to league action on Saturday, 8 February, facing off against Bugesera at Kigali Pele Stadium.
