Rayon Sports stormed back to the top of the Rwanda Premier League table with a 2-0 emphatic win over Muhazi United on Saturday at Ngoma Stadium.
The second-half goals from Adama Bagayogo and Abeddy Biramahire saw Rayon Sports leap over APR, who have yet to play their matchday 24 fixture, in the standings and go two points clear at the top as Claude Rwaka got off to an impressive start as the club's interim coach.
Rayon Sports showed no signs of being hungover from their recent internal chaos and changes, having suspended head coach Robertinho and goalkeeper coach Andre Mazimpaka and also appointed their former left-back Eric Irambona as the club's Football Administrative Director.
Emmanuel Ruremesha's side had kept the visitors at bay in the first half, with their goalkeeper Amani Twagirayezu making two brilliant saves to stop Abdul Rahman Rukundo from scoring from long range.
Bagayogo opened the scoring in the 64th minute, just seconds after coming on for Prince Elenga, with a header from very close range after the home team goalkeeper, Twagirayezu, punched Fitina Omborenga's freekick but couldn't thwart the Malian forward.
Biramahire doubled the lead four minutes afterwards with a beautiful long-distance strike to mark his fourth goal of the season since joining the club in January.
Youssou Diagne found the Rwandan centre-forward with a long-range pass to score a screamer with his right foot.
Biramahire had an opportunity to net a brace or register an assist when he failed to square for Aziz Bassane, who had set him up, late in the game until he was denied by Twagirayezu.
With the victory today, Rayon Sports currently sit on 50 points from 24 matches, and it was their third victory in their last 10 games.
Muhazi United dropped to 14th with 26 points, only two points ahead of the relegation zone.
