Rayon Sports have gone top of the Rwanda Premier League table following their narrow 1-0 victory over Etincelles in a rescheduled match at Kigali Pele Stadium on Saturday evening.

Fall Ngagne stole the limelight once more as the Senegalese striker scored the goal that sealed the triumph for Robertinho's side to mark his third league goal.

This game was initially scheduled for the last weekend of October but was deferred to due 2024 CHAN Qualifiers.

Etincelles were more resolute in the first half, producing several clear-cut scoring chances, although they were unable to break the deadlock thanks to Rayon Sports shot-stopper Khadim N'Diaye's crucial saves.

Ngagne thought he gave Rayon Sports a lead in the 44th minute when he tapped in Roger Kanamugire's header, but the goal was swiftly disallowed as the striker was offside.

The hosts had the upper hand in the second half, and that led to a goal in the 65th minute. Substitute Adama Bagayogo received the ball on the edge of the box, dropped shoulders, handled two Etincelles defenders deftly and squared for Ngagne, who scored from a close range with his left foot.

Sumaila Moro thought he levelled for Etincelles in the 83rd minute after poking the ball past N'Diaye but he was offside.

With this victory, Rayon Sports has recorded six consecutive wins with clean sheets and sits at the top of the league with 20 points from eight games, with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, the Rubavu-based side stayed in the 12th spot with eight points from nine matches.
