Paul Muvunyi has been elected as the President of Rayon Sports’ Supreme Organ, while Thadée Twagirayezu was elected to be the new President of the Rayon Sports Association for a four-year term at the general assembly meeting that took place on Saturday, 16 November, in Nzove.
Ngoga Roger Aimable, who was the interim president after Uwayezu Jean Fidele stood down from his position in September citing medical issues, presided over the meeting, which was attended by former club directors who had just been allowed to return to the club after being sidelined four years ago.
Muvunyi returns to the club’s administration for the first time since 2019 when he left his role as president after two years in office. During his tenure, he led the club to the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals, becoming the only Rwandan club to attain the feat.
He will be assisted by Dr Emile Rwagacondo, who was elected as the vice president of the Supreme Organ, while Abdallah Murenzi, who had been Rayon Sports President between 2012 and 2014, was elected as the Secretary-General.
Meanwhile, Theogene Ntampaka, Sadate Munyakazi, Paul Ruhamyambuga, Jean Fidele Uwayezu, and Charles Ngarambe were elected as advisors of the Supreme Organ committee. All of these individuals had been at the helm of Rayon Sports.
Twagirayezu, who was elected as the Association President, is no stranger to the Rayon Sports Committee as he was named the club's Vice President in 2020 by the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB).
He will be assisted by Prosper Muhirwa and Roger Aimable Ngoga, who were elected as the first and second Vice Presidents, respectively.
Chance Denys Gacinya was elected as the Advisor to the club’s executive committee, whilst Patrick Rukundo was elected as the Treasurer.
Muvunyi told the media that the newly-elected committees shared a goal of reviving the club and bringing it back to its former glory days.
Rayon Sports sit at the top of the Rwanda Premier League table with 20 points, two points adrift of Gorilla. They will return to league action, taking on second-positioned Gorilla.
