Rayon Sports have progressed to Rwanda’s Peace Cup semi-finals, following their 1-0 victory over Gorilla in the quarter-final second leg, which was held at Kigali Pele Stadium on Thursday evening.
Robertinho’s outfit booked a semi-final berth in the Peace Cup semi-finals, knocking out Gorilla on a 3-2 overall score.
Both sides played out a 2-2 stalemate in the first leg, thanks to Abeddi Biramahire’s double that saw Rayon Sports fight back and cancel out Landry Ndikumana and Keddy Nsanzimfura's goals.
Rayon Sports had a craving for triumph, having drawn their previous three matches in all competition.
Hadji Iraguha secured a win for the 2023 Peace Cup champions, scoring just three minutes after the break.
The Rwandan international winger tapped in Biramahire’s shot from inside the box, and Alain Kirasa’s men couldn’t level the game to advance to the semi-finals with an away goal as Rayon Sports walked away with a 1-0 win before facing their foe APR in the league.
The 10-time winner will face off against Mukura in the semi-finals, whilst APR will play against Police.
Rayon Sports will be looking to turn things around this time in the Peace Cup as they were knocked out in the semi-finals by Bugesera last year, trailing 2-0 on aggregate.
The first-leg games of the semi-finals are slated for 15 and 16 April, while the second legs will be played a week after.
