Sosthene Habimana has joined the coaching staff of Rwanda's men's national football team ahead of the 2024 CHAN Qualifiers against South Sudan.

He is set to replace Yves Rwasamanzi, who requested to leave the camp that started on 15 December, citing family matters which would take him over a week to resolve.

Habimana, currently Musanze head coach, will serve as Jimmy Mulisa's assistant coach.

Mulisa was Amavubi's assistant coach under Frank Torsten Spittler, but he was left to handle Amavubi's coaching duties alone as head coach Torsten Spittler is away for the holidays.

Amavubi started training for the South Sudan match on Sunday, 15 December. However, the 10 APR players who were summoned to Mulisa's 31-man squad were unable to show up, and their side requested a two-day rest. They will join the camp on Tuesday, 17 December.

Roger Kanamugire and Ally Serumogo of Rayon Sports were added to the squad, with the latter replacing the injured Fitina Omborenga.

Amavubi will face off against South Sudan in a two-leg clash in the second round of the 2024 CHAN Qualifiers. The first leg will be held at the 10,000-seat Juba Stadium on 22 December, while Rwanda will host the second leg on 28 December at Amahoro Stadium.

The national team is expected to depart for Juba, South Sudan, on Thursday, 19 December.
